PC636 UK Wandering Part 1 Alton Towers, Alderly Edge, Offa's Dyke, Isle of Anglesey
Traveling Route - summary
Tue - hitched - Arrived Derby @ 11.20 .. so had half a day being a tourist there,
- hitched to Ashbourne and then walked to new Alton
- Wed : walked & in 20 mins I arrived at Alton Towers carpark. I screwed up selling my spare ticket, missed a couple of opportunities. Cost me £6 for lockers.
- I got to go on almost everything, but even tho best rollercoasters in the world it wasn't thrilling. I thought I'd recovered from 1996 at the themepark in Brunei when I went 20 rollercoasters. Firstly I was holding onto my glasses, but when when I left them off, I felt the G etc. felt a bit anxious, but not scared but no thrill..maybe too much life experience like Indian buses etc.
- Idea 1 James Bond ride
- Idea 2 evening opening for parties/business etc.
- Idea 3 wet weather festival support....sponsored by Mcvities & Gortex

Traveling Route 1 - a) Alton Towers

Tue 22 I've got free tix for Alton Towers so set off to do travelling, hitched to Derby then Ashbourne, walked to near Alton to camp Arrived Derby @ 11.20, after Ashbourne walked to new Alton

- Wed 24 walked & in 20 mins I arrived at Alton Towers carpark. I screwed up selling my spare ticket, missed a couple of opportunities. Cosy me £6 for lockers. I got to go on almost everything, but even tho... best rollocosters in the world it wasn't thrilling.

- b) Alderly Edge

- Thu : walk/hitch to Leek, with a guy who said he sculptured one of the 3 Stanley Matthews statues at the Stoke City ground. (Andy Edwards, Julian Jeffery and Carl Payne ) He said he was a stonemason so I guess he's Julian Jeffery, link 2 (If I had his email I'd pass it on to the Bfritish Council cos he the type of artist they could get to do a tour of some overseas places for them.)

- Thu pm hitched to Macclesfield ... walked to Alderly Edge. walked too far at night

- Fri - Walked to Alderly Edge again

Fri - walked on to Knutsford - lucky hitch to the Offas Dyke path after Wrexham .. I waited & waited but every car was 2 women in an Audi ..and I knew I'd have to get to Chester then to Mold then to Offa's Dyke, but then came Jim a recovered heroin addict coming back from his training classes to be a counsellor to heroin addicts
He dropped me Llandegla to be in position to start on Offa's Dyke

- c) Offa's Dyke North : walked Sat to Monday lunch

Sat - morning I was washing my socks in the river after LLandegla 29 miles walk to get to Prestatyn - wiggly waggly walking mostly up with a big southern wind behind me. Eventually down to the road where I had planned to begin (between Mold & Ruthin) then back up and along , down to a Regional park then up up up to the Jubilee monument the highest building in North Wales ..too windy for photos. ( the Jubilee Monument on the summit of Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range) PANORAMA wikipedia

- actually it was designed to be a huge 4 towered piece, but mostly collapsed in 1860 50 years after they started & was repaired

...Then along and steep down to camp south of Arthurs Fort.

- Sun - walk to Prestatyn Edge

- Mon - Prestatyn, - walked to Rhyl - camp

- d) Isle of Anglesey

Tue 29 CONWAY walked around & saw the Olympic torch relay, rubbish that keeps the muggles amused ... Bangor ..then crossed to Anglesey

Wed - walked to see burial mound ..hitched to Holyhead

Thu rain in Holyhead ..just come off the mountain ..bus to East Coast

Fri- still got wet boots - yesterday came down the eastern side of the island I will leave to go to stay at a bunkhouse near Caernafon cos the rain is coming

- Fri - walked to beach place, Menai Bridge ..to Carnafon and camped at Waunfawr in .

- e) Snowdon valley

- Sat - big walk

- Sun - rain ..destroyed my boots

Mon - I enjoyed the Pentre Bach camping barn. It made me realise meeting people is muçh more interesting than the countryside. - no jubilee stuff going on here. MY Task is to find interesting events / festivals

Mon - bunkhouse was full, so walked to Snowden ranger hostel, full also ..continued walking to Porthmadoc, train to Harlech, hitched to Barmouth, walked across estuary bridge hitched to Dollgethlau, didn't like it. This trp has become a wander around instead of planned travel, but that's the best way. - thanks to Grant who gave me a ride to Welshpool.. good place, managed to camp and stay out of rain.

- f) Offa's Dyke midsection

Tue - I have this idea to head down to Ludlow & Leominster..Offas dyke path is stupidly up & down so I'll take the canal path then head east to get to Montgomery & bunkouse at Bishops Castle

Wed - Just walked along canal to Montgomery then hitched back across border in England at Totnes like Bishop's Castle. Bunkhouse was full so ended up at excellent hostel in Clun
- This area is an amazing secret old England of quaint historic villages & castles. Today booked in again due to rain And did hitch walk circuit to Ludlow etc. Tomorrow Offas Dyke path to Knighton then to Kingston. hostel

Fri - Offa's Dyke path, but due to rain & terrain I stuck to the road ..it rained all day, kept crossing Wales England border, Knighton, Presteine ..arrived in Kington but hostel was group booked FS & Su And on the BBC satellite map the rain didn't get 20Km East to Leominster ..apparently it just hovers over the Welsh hills. Got a good hitch to Leominster but hostel was ALSO group booked so camped
- went to see local groups sketch show.. bit patchy, I think it was more about therapy for them than for the public.

- g) Head to Birmingham to escape rain
